We fired up our wood boiler yesterday.  Winter is just around the corner.  We still have a lot to get done before the snow comes to stay, and are dividing our time with nice days doing outdoor chores and rainy days doing fish taxidermy and indoor chores.  Transition times, like between seasons,  are always extra hectic, but so rewarding.

We're still on track to have all current taxidermy finished before the end of the year.  We should have time to spare with both of us working on it.  We have lots of mounts in various stages of completion, some are finished, some soaking, some drying, etc.  The old bait shop is really looking like a full-fledged fish taxidermy shop.  It's really great to have the extra room for it.  Still have to repair the floor where the minnow tanks used to be, though.

Fall colors are at about 75% now.  We're even beginning to lose leaves off the trees.  Peak will happen any day, and then bare trees will follow quickly.  I'd guess that by October 8 or 9 there won't be much color left.  Still some great hiking though as the ferns go dormant, and a new outlook on the area waterfalls with the changing season.

FISHING REPORT:  Plenty of walleye catches lately.  Crawlers still good, but leaning more toward minnows now, not much on leeches.  Best bite early a.m. or late aft. / eve.  Perch can still be had, though many have moved to deeper water, so it's a bit tougher.  Still a bit of perch action around weed edges though.  Big Pike on big minnows :)  Happy fishing!!!

2-POUNDER CLUB:  Catch a Jumbo perch 2 pounds or bigger and get a FREE Club cap from Maple Ridge.

ICE CONDITIONS:  The ice was finally gone around May 1.  Season generally begins between Dec. 1 - 15.

HOG-A-THON:  Was a roaring success.  Will be making some improvements for the 2009 Event, to be posted as details are available.  E-mail me your input for consideration of changes to next year's event.  (see above)

SNOWMOBILING:  Trails officially open on December 1.  Check here for trail conditions.  Expecting another great season for 2008 - 2009.
